Ready, set... Pakyaw!

When we went online with our first deal, we were very excited and full of anxiety. This was the day of reckoning. All preparations had been made, meetings left and right, mind-boggling decisions, long hours, sleepless nights... all efforts focused on this first day of February. All were glued to the site, awaiting the first buy. When it finally happened, applause and cheers were heard throughout the room. The deal was on.

That night, a dinner was hosted to thank the team for successfully launching Pakyaw. The mood was relaxed and happy. A statistic check revealed we had 32 buys on the first day. To be honest, I didn't know what this number meant to us. Was it good? Terrible? Just okay? We really didn't know. This was the very first deal... I guess it was more of a "live with it number".

After a toast was made by the top honcho, she asked, "So why don't we take a poll to see how many vouchers we think we will sell?" She blurted "680!" Eyes rolled amongst us, thinking the number was too high. One by one we shouted out numbers. With 32 sold that day, everyone guessed conservatively. Trying to be funny, I yelled, "1-4-3!" Everyone laughed and I had a number I could remember. 680 was still the top bid.

When I got to work the next day, my 143 was overtaken before 10am. The number of buys were picking up, and picking up fast. The highest bid, 680, was overtaken at 6pm. By 9pm, we hit 900. And the number just kept climbing, the deal closed with 1,904 vouchers sold the next day. Wow. What a way to start Pakyaw.
